A boy held onto his mum’s hand and gazed wide-eyed at two men crossing their swords, his intent eyes full of curiosity, excitement, and amazement. Some day, he thought, some day I would also like to fence.

That boy was me, more than ten years ago, when I chanced upon one of the training sessions of the fencing national team back then. One glimpse and I felt a tingling craving ever since. It was a few years later when I finally had the chance to satisfy this craving, when fencing became a CCA in my secondary school. Since then, I had been learning this incredible sport under the guidance of my coach Wu Jie.

Before long, I started to attend regular trainings at Absolute Fencing. I am grateful for my coaches, who taught me everything I knew; And also thankful for all my friends, who laughed with me, sparred with me and agonized through the same rigorous trainings as me.

Throughout the years, my passion for fencing has been unwavering, because it taught me so much in so many areas and there is still so much yet to be learnt. Now, fencing has become a defining cornerstone of my life, and the journey has been both fun and fulfilling. No doubt, I would continue on this path and see where it would lead.
